1968: The Genesis

In 1968, while New York City’s skyline was reaching new heights, Dennis Do (image, copyright Perfumer & Flavorist, 1966) was looking deeper into the molecular foundation of the city's industry. A classically trained perfumer and flavorist, Dennis recognized the South Bronx not just as a manufacturing zone, but as a strategic sanctuary for the "invisible art" of scent and taste.

At a time when the fragrance world was dominated by high-gloss European houses, Dennis established Delbia Do as a "Perfumer’s Perfumer"—a laboratory dedicated to the rigorous, combustible science of raw materials. While the industry moved toward mass-market automation, he prioritized Toll Manufacturing and Bespoke Compounding, ensuring that the human-scale precision required for fine fragrance remained alive in New York.

Dennis didn't just build a factory; he built a Regulatory Fortress. He secured the rare FDNY permits for flammable liquid manufacturing that remain the backbone of the facility today. This original vision—that high-end luxury requires industrial-strength infrastructure—is what allowed Delbia Do to evolve from a specialized lab into a 38,000-square-foot global authority.

Our Journey

THE GREEN ERA

2020s

The facility becomes an EPA Green Power Partner, running on 100% renewable wind energy, and achieves USDA Organic certification, proving that "Bronx Grit" and "Green Science" are a powerful combination.

THE REGULATORY FORTRESS

2010s

Delbia Do achieves elite status as one of the few NYC facilities permitted by the FDNY for high-volume flammable manufacturing, while securing high-level clearances from Homeland Security and the ATF.

THE ARCHIVE

1980s

The curation of the 2,000-material library begins—a decades-long project to archive rare botanicals and emerging aroma molecules.

THE FOUNDATION

1968

Dennis Do establishes the laboratory in the South Bronx. At a time of rapid industrial growth, he focuses on high-purity essential oils and complex flavor masking for the pharmaceutical sector.

Darryl Do: The Senior Perfumer & Technical Consultant

The Industry Gatekeeper: Beyond the lab, Darryl is a respected voice in the American Society of Perfumers (ASP) and a frequent expert judge for the Fragrance Foundation (FiFi) Awards.

The Scientist’s Nose: Unlike marketing-led perfumers, Darryl specializes in Stability & Compliance.

Complex Formulations: His mastery extends to navigating VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) compliance and formulating for challenging bases, including high-alkaline personal care products and acidic beverage flavors.

Facility Specifications

Secure Manufacturing

With FDNY, ATF, and Homeland Security clearances, we are uniquely equipped to handle high-proof denatured alcohols and specialized aroma molecules that standard warehouses and 3PLs are legally prohibited from touching.

Analytical Purity

We utilize Anton Paar Density Meters and Rudolph Research Polarimeters to ensure every batch is chemically identical to the last. For the wholesale buyer, this means absolute consistency in Refractive Index and Specific Gravity, batch after batch.

Precision Filtration

Our compounding stations feature 0.5-micron filtered domes. This level of filtration removes microscopic particulates that can cloud a clear beverage or "clog" the fine-mist sprayers of a luxury perfume bottle.
